In recognition of the nation's best new housing designs, we are proud to announce our receipt of the Best in American Living Award for our home, "The Brandywine Valley Home". The category was Best Single-Family Detached Home 4,001 square feet and over. The Best in American Living Awards, considered the foremost residential design competition in the nation, is given annually by Professional Builder magazine and the National Association of Home Builders. This year's ceremony was held at The Wynn Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas during the International Builders Show on January 19th, 2009.
"The Brandywine Valley Home" was a home built in Fort Mill, S.C. in the neighborhood of Springfield for the annual Homearama Showcase. Despite its South Carolina location, this home is an authentic reproduction of a Bucks County (Pa.) farmhouse. To make it look like an old home that had been added on to over the last 150 years, the main structure was built with four wings, each with a distinctive look appropriate to the time period. For instance, the first-floor study looks like an old spring porch that was enclosed. A sharp drop at the rear of the lot provided an opportunity to cascade the outdoor living area down several levels – the whirlpool into the main pool and the main pool into another small pool all complemented by a large arbor and stone fireplace.
We must give credit to our design team of Home Designer, Trisha Chambers of Carolina Design Group, and Interior Designer, Melodie Durham of Durham Design & Consulting. The landscaping was designed by E.S. Johnson Builders.
Although several BALA awards have been awarded to builders in the Charlotte market, this is the first top honor for a home in the last decade. While we are also proud of the numerous other local and regional awards we have received over the years, this one gives us special pride knowing that we were recognized among the very best homes built in America.
